Recovering From Katrina "There are no strangers here, just friends you have not met." - anonymous I came across the above quote while reading a blog about the damage left behind by Hurricane Katrina. It made me think about how most of us have become so immune to tragedies that we simply block them out unless it happens to someone we know personally. Last month's hurricane is officially our nation's most devastating natural disaster in history, with hundreds of people believed to have lost their lives, and hundreds of thousands left homeless with no place to go. Sadly, many people will never recover from this horrific event. As residents of this country and simply because we are human beings, we have an obligation to at least care about the victims of this disaster and do our part to help. My main reason for writing about this is to make people aware of what they are doing when donating to charities. There are too many scams out there attempting to benefit from people's honest desire to help. I advise that if you are going to make a donation, make sure to do it wisely, and give to a reputable organization like the Red Cross or Feed the Children Foundation. Please be wary of no-name organizations and random emails you have not signed up to receive. Play it safe, and make sure your hard earned dollars help the victims instead of fattening the pockets of scam artists. The following are legitimate organizations that are directly involved in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina: American
